Northface *cough* robots

This my friend, is not cool. This is probably one of the worst trends. The sperry trend was a good thing because dudes were finally wearing khakis and what not with the right shoes. Don't fall into the "Northface" trap. Wearing the same jacket as everybody and their mother is dead wrong. If your in Target, and you have the same jacket on as the 50 year old man next to you, then your fashion sense is in question. Don't be a robot. If this is what you like then that's cool, but if your wearing it because 899877 other frat boys/girls or fake "preps" are wearing it then check yourself. ok, bye.

What Phil wants for CHRISTMAS....(SCREW "X-mas)
1. I would like for all "jersey shore" like douche-bags to find the nearest tanning beds and bake until your not a douche bag. however long that takes. While your in they're, me and my partner in blog will build up the self-esteem of women you all destroyed.
2. As my partner-in-blog said below, I would like the U.S. to do well in the World Cup. Lord willing.
3. I would like Kanye West to return to music. People made a bigger deal out of that incident than when the PRESIDENT OF THE FREE WORLD got interrupted by a U.S. Congressman. Get your priorities in order, AND this is coming from a person who respects Taylor Swift.
4. I would also like a new Polo cardigan.
Ok, bye.

EW Album of The Decade: "The College Dropout"
via: EWThis is well deserved in my eyes. An album that influenced the sound of hip-hop years after it was made with the soul sample. An album that made it ok for young African-Americans with eclectic personalities to feel free to express ideas/art/fashion. An album that appealed to all nationalities and backgrounds while at the same time exemplifying Black pride and culture. Thank you, Mr. West

Classic Polo: Ralph Lauren Bear Tee = SpAzZ

It's not a secret to anyone who knows me that Ralph Lauren is my favorite designer. Why he's my fav, I won't get into all the reasons. I will tell you this though, he made European designers give Americans some respect in regards to this fashion shit (props to Marc Jacobs as well) but I digress. This is the throwback bear tee. When I hear the word "throwback", I think of dope shit like this, not over sized jerseys that should be outlawed. Go to a Polo factory store and check these out. Ok, bye.

LA ROUX ALBUM REVIEW

La Roux hails from Brixton, England and are already a smash pop act in the UK. They're next target of course is the U.S. They're self-titled album is full of electronic dance pop, and big pop it is folks. What separates this electronic pop from thousands of other bands is the relatable lyrics. You have the single "bulletproof", and its about not letting the one you love run over you. It's about growing a back bone without losing you ability to love and let someone in. It's a hell of a track, and the hits don't stop there. I should warn you though, this is one of those albums that will stick in your head. That's good though right? They're latest single "I'm not your toy" is just as upbeat as "bulletproof". Lead singer Elly Jackson sings "it's all false love and affection, you don't won't me you just like the attention" before launching into a gigantic hellaciously good chorus of I'm not your toy. The lyrics are well thought out, and most importantly of all RELATABLE. The one ballad on the album "cover my eyes" could even be a single. It's about being hurt, and seeing your loved one with another person on the street, and the pain that you feel seeing some shit like that. It's just human emotion. "Cover my eyes" features the London Community Gospel Choir and they add a great emotional effect on the hook without being corny and over the top. I believe they have hit the nail on the head with this album. A pop album without compromising artistic integrity is hard to come by these days, but these Brits have done it. Ok, bye.
*fun fact: la roux is french for "red-haired one"

"We Were Once A Fairytale"--Short Film By Spike Jonze starring Kanye West
"We Were Once A Fairytale" - Kanye West Dir: Spike Jonze from Yooj‽ - Recording Live From No on Vimeo.
People are going to say this is about cleaning up his image, or Kanye's being "weird" again, but I digress. I'm not getting into that. I'm just going to tell you what I took from the film. In my point of view this was set in West's perspective. When the lady tells him in the beginning that the drinks are on the house, and he accidentally breaks a glass the film takes off for me. I caught the first glimpse of what "celebrity" might mean, and how it takes the norm out of life. West offers to pay for the drink, but they won't let him. This is a metaphor for me. They allow you to act crazy & superior because of your celebrity and soon enough you start to believe that maybe you are more important than others. The next thing is when he asked IBN Jasper (his barber) whether he liked the song they were playing in the club. (They were playing one of West's songs from 808's). It must feel strange to hear your on music at a club. How can you be normal when the spotlight never quits. It was almost like going to a concert to hear your favorite band, but instead they cancel and ask you to perform your music. Of course this club scene is on a smaller scale, but the similarities exists nonetheless. There's a big scene where Kanye isn't portrayed as a victim, but as the attacker. He displays the part of him that people don't like. The asshole in him. He deliberately hits on another person's girlfriend right in front of the guy, and kind of brushes it off because, "Hey I'm a celebrity right?". In the end he ends up cutting the celebrity/fame/ego out of his body. He literally cuts it out, and it dies. You'll know what I'm talking about, I just don't want to give out the ending. It's beautiful art, and not just for a hip-hop artist. just beautiful art in general. make your own opinion. This is just mine. ok, bye.Monday, October 5, 2009

"Plan B"--Tanya Morgan
This is an insightful hip-hop song from the rising stars known as Tanya Morgan. "Plan B" is about what they would do if they didn't have hip-hop. The point of it all is basically them saying they wouldn't have used their talents if it weren't for the group, the collective unit. Great quote from the song: "We look like 3, but we are 1. get my drift" Check out their album "Brooklynati" for spazztastic music.

Yay!! *sarcasm I don't care if your a fan of Air, and I don't want to join your internet gang. It's getting out of hand. I also don't care if John and Jane broke up. Who gives a rat's ass?! Amber Rose is Spazzin
"Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix"--Phoenix

This french band knows how to rock. Call it hipster-rock, call it dance-rock, doesn't really matter. I call it good music. The album is full of upbeat tracks, that you can't help but want to move when you hear them. The album starts off with the track "Lisztomania". It's upbeat and full of energy. The guitars dance around the bass line like freaking fairies circling Peter Pan's head. It's cohesive and strong. The next track "1901" has the same kind of energy. You can tell hands down that these are the singles, but they have plenty of tunes on this record with single potential. "1901" is full of synths, and jangly guitar. The song was made for the dance floor. It's catchy in that "artistic pop" kind of way. It's accessible, yet artistically defined. Other notables are "Lasso" & "Rome". The album is full of emotion, and love without being sappy. In conclusion, it is a fantastic pop/rock album without compromising artistic integrity. American rockers could learn a thing from these guys.

My take on: Jay-Z's "The Blueprint 3"
Here it is folks, the most hyped album of the year. Jay has arguably three classic albums. Two albums (original Blueprint, and Reasonable Doubt) are indisputable classics. Now we have the Blueprint 3 in our midst. Is it a classic? No, not in my opinion. Is it a good/decent Jay album? Yes, I believe it is. The first track "what we talkin' about" starts the album off right. The indie hook, and Jay go well together. The beat is grand, and it sounds like the king is coming. Jay is on point with this track. The first six songs are fantastic. DOA, and Run this town show the old Jay. He talks about his self alot but hey, that's Jay right. His witty lyricism is apparent on the first half of the album, and it is grand. The second half of the album is where it's hit or miss. The Swizz Beatz produced track "on to the next one" is a clone of the "we off that" drake track. We get it Jay, your off the old trends and in with the new. Did it take two tracks to say that? Not really, but I digress. Drake's name alone can not save the "we off that" track. The beat is mediocre, and the hook is uninspired. sad really. The Swizz Beatz track "on to the next one" suffers from the same thing. The whole "let's repeat people saying things" on a track is getting old for Swizz. Find a new bag of tricks. "Venus vs. Mars" is just an embarrassment. Like I said, it's not a classic, but it's a decent album. Jay has shown some growth with tracks like "forever young" where he talks of his music living on when he's long gone, and "a star is born" where he passes the torch to younger mc's. He's shown some growth, but the majority of the songs are just Jay talking about Jay. That gets a little old. I say lose about five tracks and this album would have been more complete. ok, bye

We are L.A.S.E.R.S.
This video describes everything this blog is about. I believe wholeheartedly in Lupe's campaign. It's about being yourself. Leaders can't be followers, and apologizing for who are you is cowardly. We don't condone this type of behavior. You must set the trend. Our goal is to make the taste. We can alter the recipe, but we won't. If we did you wouldn't receive out thoughts, feelings, or our belief in the arts. ok, bye.

A Thought On: The Loafer

Back in high school "Jordan's" were all the rage in footwear. Even today they are hailed as the sneaker above all others. I can't say that I disagree. With that said, Jordan's are expensive. If I got a pair of these shoes when I was younger, that pair had to last. Hell, I still think Jordan's are cool, along with Bathing Apes, Air max, etc. But as my wardrobe has changed so has my footwear. Long gone are the jerseys, and oversized tees that used to populate my closet. I've replaced these things with oxford shirts, polo's, and bear tees. As I made this transition, the sneakers had to go. I chose the loafer, and for these reasons. A dark brown loafer will match almost any polo, oxford etc. You can wear them with jeans, khaki's, or even corduroys. Now don't get me wrong, a fine loafer is just as expensive as the beloved Jordan sneaker, but as the Jordan shoe gets worn down with age the loafer is quite the opposite. The older the loafer the better it looks. So in conclusion, I saved money with these beautiful leather creatures. Two pair will last me years, and they have. ok, bye.
